Monitoring press freedom violations in Nicaragua
In compliance with our mission, we collect information related to violations against freedom of the press and access to public information.
The data are classified according to the indicator framework developed from a guideline of the categories used by the Red Voces del Sur (VdS), made up of 17 international organizations.

We use the agreed regional methodology with 12 collaboratively designed indicators to identify and record alerts on violations of fundamental rights related to the scope of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 16, which aims to achieve more equal, peaceful and inclusive societies.

Terminology
Act causing death, considered as an intentional homicide as a consequence of the exercise of the profession.
Unlawful abduction and detention of one or more persons against their will (...) with the purpose of obstructing, censoring or negatively influencing the work of journalists
They are arrests, abductions, detentions, imprisonments, retentions or transfers or any other form of deprivation of liberty by governmental groups and refuse to disclose their whereabouts.
Refers to the arrest, retention, or detention of someone, where there is no fair trial or legal basis to justify the deprivation of liberty. It occurs as a consequence of the exercise of freedom of expression.
Any act by which severe pain, intimidation, coercion, duress or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person.
Refers to violent, intimidating or limiting actions, which may be physical or verbal, implemented with the objective of impeding or limiting freedom of expression and press.
Refers to attacks, usually verbal, made publicly with the aim of discrediting and discrediting the victim.

Refers to restrictions or hindrances to access information of public interest or news facts.
CIVIL AND CRIMINAL PROCEEDINGS
Refers to a private or public lawsuit in which the consequences may include fines, imprisonment, among others.
